Why me?

Do you ever find yourself asking... "Why me?" "Why did this have to happen to me?" "Why is this happening to me?" "What did I do to deserve this?" "Why my child?"

I have asked these questions alot over the last couple of years in dealing with and coming to terms with ADHD and it's effect on our lives. I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason and the Lord has been so faithful to bring us through these trials. It is far from over and more of a journey at this point, but I trust that he will continue to guide us and direct us in the ways that we should go.

In Bible Study last night (Esther Session 2 by Beth Moore), Beth said something that echoed in my soul:

"You can't amputate your history from your destiny"

She went onto explain that it is part of who you are and will be part of the destiny that the Lord fulfills in you.

Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Beth explained that the word translated as "future" here in this verse has meanings of both past and future - they are from the same root word. It is the Lord who uses our pasts, our history, our baggage, our trails, and all our circumstances to fulfill our destinies through Him. Without our pasts, we would not be who we are today, and we would not become who He wants us to be in the future. I trust that God is in control of all of our futures, and he will complete in us the good works he has already begun.

I experienced the "why me?" trama as well when my son was diagnosed. I decided it is me because I am a strong, stubborn woman who fights tooth and nail for her children when warranted. Who better? I don't mean that in a conceited way. But I have decided I am up to the challenge and I am going to help my ADHD son have a wonderful, fullfilled, successful life. I don't bck down from a challenge and that's just what he needs!
